Eye Examination

What is a sight examination?

A sight examination is an important part of maintaining good vision and eye health.

Every eye examination includes:

  • A review of your general health, family history, and any eye-related concerns

  • A thorough examination of the front and back of the eyes to check for signs of eye disease

  • Measurement of eye pressure to assess glaucoma risk (where appropriate)

  • Assessment of vision at near and distance

  • Tests to determine short-sightedness, long-sightedness, astigmatism and, where relevant, presbyopia

  • Assessment of eye coordination and eye muscle function

  • Evaluation of how well your eyes focus and work together

At the end of the examination, your optometrist will explain the findings, discuss any recommendations, and provide personalised advice on eye health, vision correction, workplace vision, and lifestyle factors.

Additional age-appropriate tests are carried out for children to ensure normal visual development.

Introducing Eye360™ – a deeper look at eye health

Eye360™ is our advanced approach to eye diagnostics, used when your optometrist feels it’s appropriate.

Modern eye care goes beyond eyesight alone. We now understand that the eye can act as a window to the body — subtle changes at the back of the eye can sometimes reflect wider health risks, particularly where there is family history or other risk factors.

Eye360™ allows us to look beneath the surface of the eye and gain a more complete picture of eye health.

What does Eye360™ involve?

Depending on your individual needs, Eye360™ may include:

  • Advanced retinal scanning (OCT)

  • Digital retinal photography to compare eye health over time

  • Visual field testing (peripheral vision)

  • A broader assessment of glaucoma risk

In some cases, there is also the option to have your scans securely reviewed by partner doctors using AI-supported analysis. This provides additional screening insight and a short medical summary, which can be shared with your GP if you wish.

This review offers screening insight only and does not replace GP or consultant care.

A personalised, clinician-led approach

Eye360™ is:

  • Not needed by everyone

  • Recommended by your optometrist based on clinical judgement

  • Clearly explained, with your choice at every step

If Eye360™ is right for you, your optometrist will talk you through what’s involved and why it may be helpful.

In short

  • A standard eye exam checks vision and eye health

  • Eye360™ offers a deeper level of assessment when appropriate

  • It reflects modern eye care and the role of the eye as a window to the body
